This book is a corner stone, and a measuring stick of horror. It starts plainly enough a fishing trip in rural Ireland, an abandon ruin of a house, creepy townsfolk etc. Then it goes into previously uncharted territory. First published in 1908 it was a giant departure from the meat and potatoes spook stories of the previous centuries. Dimensional gates , swirling vortices of cosmic mind sodomy, ravenous flesh eating pig daemons etc. A book you should read not because your suppose to, but because the hype is true.
